In May of 2008, we were pleased to receive approval from the Planning Board for the Ashton Meeting Place project.  As a condition of approval, the State Highway Administration (SHA) must dedicate funds for the improvement of the Route 108 and 650 intersections.  These improvements will serve to make this intersection safer with the addition of crosswalks, and will relieve congestion experienced by many members of our community during peak travel times. 

As the developers of Ashton Meeting Place, we have done our part (dedicated land, committed financial contributions) for these improvements, and now we are asking SHA to do theirs.   We received a letter from Neil Pedersen, SHA Administrator, notifying us that the SHA is ready to proceed with the final design, but would only “consider moving forward with improvements to the MD 108/MD 650 intersection as funding becomes available” but that SHA must consider a “large number of projects” when determining funding prioritization. 

We urge you to contact your local representatives and decision makers to:

• let the state know how important these improvements are to you
• urge SHA to move this project to the top of their list of priorities
